Currently, there are no Clearplay apps for smartphones or similar devices.
Overview:
Creating an app that filters movies legally from a streaming provider has significant challenges. We want you to enjoy the show and have confidence that you are filtering within the bounds of the law.
Details:
Having your account with a streaming provider is not enough to ensure legality; the content must also be streamed without making an unauthorized copy.
Both these requirements are met with Clearplay:
Movies and TV shows are paid for by the customer (e.g., through a subscription or a one-time purchase with the streaming service), and
That content is subsequently streamed without making an unauthorized copy (e.g. directly from the streaming service’s website).
Both these requirements are critical for legality. When customers stream movies and TV shows directly from the streaming service’s website, Clearplay can legally apply filters to that content.

App-based Environments:
In an app-based environment, streaming services connect directly through their respective apps. For instance, to watch a movie on Netflix, you must download the Netflix app. These apps retrieve content directly from their authorized servers.
Devices like phones, tablets, and TVs are designed for single-app use and don’t allow one app to control the functions of another. This means a Clearplay app can’t adequately manage muting and skipping functions in other apps like Netflix.
If Clearplay were to bypass this limitation—by making unauthorized copies of movies and TV shows and then streaming from those unauthorized copies—it would create legal problems. In this scenario, both Clearplay and our customers would be breaking copyright laws.
In the past, Clearplay has had partnerships with other streaming services. For example, when Walmart owned the streaming service VUDU, they directly incorporated Clearplay filtering into their apps. This enabled Walmart’s customers to have Clearplay filtering on devices like phones, tablets, and smart TV apps.
Our Current Solution:
Clearplay’s browser extension allows you to work directly with all the major streaming services and, just as importantly, guarantees that the movies and TV shows are not streamed from unauthorized sources. With both these conditions met, you can be confident that you are following copyright laws when using Clearplay.
