Presentation quality issues on Disney+

The problem:

During video skips on Disney+, you will sometimes see a black screen. This issue is unique to Disney+ and doesn't happen with other streaming services.

Note: This issue does not occur on Disney content when played through Amazon streaming. It only occurs when playing content on the Disney+ streaming service.

Why does it happen?

The internal timers on the Disney+ streaming service are sometimes incorrect. For example, we may tell the video to skip ahead 20 seconds, but their internal timers only skips ahead 10 seconds. To prevent an inappropriate image from flashing on the screen, we have software that puts up a black screen while the skip finishes.

Is this a permanent problem?

No. We will keep pressing to invent a new solution for skipping on Disney+.  It is a very tricky problem for a streaming service to have internal seeking methods that sometimes perform inaccurately.

We love creating new solutions for near-impossible tasks — all while making sure the filtering is done legally and without making copies on our servers.

One more thought:

We use our service with our own families. Having high-quality filtering is a must. We will continue improving video skips on Disney+ and these improvements will continue to automatically push out to everyone.
